Dance in Scripture

Exodus 15:20

Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.

2 Samuel 6:14

And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

Ecclesiastics 3:1-8

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;  A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Psalm 30:10-11

Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be my helper. You have turned for me my mourning into dancing

Jeremiah 31:4, 13

Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin of Israel: you shall again be adorned with your timbrels, and shall go forth in the dances of them that make merry.  Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow,

Judges 21:20-21

They commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards; And see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come you out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.

Psalm 150:4-6

Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and pipes. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the clashing cymbals. Let every thing that has breath praise the LORD. Praise you the LORD.

Psalm 149: 3-4

Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp. For the LORD takes pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.
